The Valemount Senior Citizens Housing Society, now a registered charity, was incorporated in 1978 to manage the first seniors housing facility in Valemount.
The Golden Years Lodge was built in 1978 with nine units — five one-bedroom and four studio units. With low demand for the studio units, the four studio units were combined into two, resulting in seven independent units in Phase 1.
A second phase was added in 1985 to the existing building with 6 more independent units for seniors.
In 2011, 10 fully independent townhouse style units were built bringing the total units managed by the society to 23.

In January 2020, the society started working to develop a phase-wise seniors' facility for varying levels of care and services, so that seniors would not have to leave the community.
The Society also manages the Meals on Wheels program offering meals 3 times a week to seniors.
